YouTube video shows car doing ‘130 mph’ between Cwmbran and Newport on A4042

DANGEROUS: The car speeds past other traffic on the video DANGEROUS: The car speeds past other traffic on the video

POLICE are investigating a video of a car appearing to drive at 130 miles per hour on a Gwent road.

The video was posted on YouTube and describes itself as showing a Subaru car driving up to 130 miles per hour.

The video shows the car driving along the A4042 bypass between Llantarnam and Newport at excess speed and has had more than 680 views.

Gwent Police said they will now be looking at the footage to try to establish who the driver is and to take action against them.

The video posted in September last year lasts 56 seconds and at one point shows the speedometer reaching around 130 miles per hour.

The car can be seen moving to the outside lane near the welcome to Newport road sign, moves close behind one car which quickly moves to the inside lane and the overtaking of a bus and a lorry.

Inspector Jason Love from the roads policing unit said: "Speeding above the national speed limit is irresponsible and illegal. Driving at this speed, if it is to be believed, is incomprehensible and only luck has prevented this kind of driving from resulting in a serious collision, serious injuries or even a fatality."

He appealed to other road users to report dangerous or careless driving to the police.

Torfaen MP Paul Murphy said: "It's very concerning to think that people could be so stupid. They're not only endangering themselves, but other innocent road users. I think police officers, firefighters or paramedics who've dealt with the results of high speed accidents could teach anyone foolish enough to do this a thing or two. Well done to the Argus for highlighting the concerns that I'm sure your readers will share, and for reporting this to the police."

Llantarnam ward councillor David Daniels said: "It's glorifying speed in a car which is obviously stupid. 130 miles per hour on such a busy road with a number of cars on is unbelievable."

Coed Eva councillor Fiona Cross added: "It's shockingly irresponsible and very dangerous, a frankly pathetic way to get attention. This behaviour could seriously harm others and for what? An ego trip."

oh please gwent police are hot on the case in my experience they do as little as possible . Its the only town I know that the shell suit brigade regularly ride around the town in broad daylight on quad bikes with no helments.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find out who this idiot is! His YouTube account gives his name as "Dale" and indicates that he was born in 1990.....can't be that many 22 year old blue Subaru owners called Dale in the Torfaen area! www.youtube.com/user

I was thinking the same thing Red!

The only thing I would sugegst is that MrWelshlad1990 isn't the driver, but the passenger.

That said, it's likely the owner/driver, Dale, is the same age.

Shouldn't be that difficult to find.

When looking at his youtube account, my first thoughts weren't actually that they were idiots, but that it's kinda sad that the only thing this guy has in his life to upload is videos of someone else's car.

A quad bike has to be registered, taxed and tested, same as a car, but there is no requirement to wear a helmet. Your point is?

Chris227 it seems you have a problem. or had problems, with Gwent Police. In previous posts you have criticised the Police as basically being idol - during a time when the Policewomen were murdered investigating a call in Manchester.

You say they do 'as little as possible' well you should advise the officers in charge of the April Jones inquiry perhaps you could give advice to them as they rely on the public for information & I sure they would greatly appreciate your input.

Finally are you referring to Newport (Gwents not a town) well I'm sure there are other towns you could find which come up to your valued & high standards

You're out of time to prosecute speeding and you'd struggle to prove a case of dangerous on this stuff in front of a jury. If it's driving one of those horrible boom -boom- baby air cooled Imprezas it's got enough problems in its life already and as I write this is probably chewing its teddy's left ear in a frenzy and spitting bits of a Big Mac round the room.

As per some of the comments - this video is fake and the driver gets no where near 130mph...

As he passes the 4x4, he is only going about 20mph faster than it, so at most 80-85mph when the camera pans to the speedo, again no where near the indicated 130...

Also as he comes up behind the VW fox? he isnt going much faster than it, certainly not nearly double the speed.

Video is just another fanboi trying to look cool and failing badly... When will these people grow up.

As reckless as it is you do not need helmets on quad bikes. They should for there own safety but the law does not require it.

.....Although it is advisable from a safety point of view, there is no legal requirement to wear a helmet when riding one of these machines. If ridden on a road, they should conform with the Construction & Use Regulations, and of course, be taxed and insured.

I wonder if this is an import Subaru, if so the clocks could still be in KPH not MPH, which is quite common as a lot are imported and not altered. If that is the case then 130KPH translates into around 80MPH, which isn't anywhere near as bad?

Not likely unless an import Subaru's top speed is 150 kph or so (from the picture of the dial)

The car is doing about 85mph top end.I think you will find that if it is timed I will be about right. There is always a speedo error on any vehicle to a point,it just so happens his is way out in this case.Still very irresponsible, even worse posting it.
