A golf tournament has scored a ‘hole in one’ by raising more than £1,400 for a Gwent charity, which provides palliative care services to more than 3000 patients and their families facing life-limiting illness.

Hosted by Axiom Manufacturing Services, the golf tournament at the Celtic Manor Resort was organised by the manufacturer to raise money through donations, sponsorship and a raffle for St David’s Hospice Care.

The hospice’s mission is to provide residents from Mid Powys through to Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Newport with free access to comprehensive palliative care and support services at a cost of more than £7.5m per annum. The money raised at the golf day will be used to help fund St Anne’s Hospice in Newport after it merged with St David’s.

Paul Murphy, commercial director at Axiom Manufacturing, said: “Our business is rooted in our local community. We are passionate about supporting causes to ensure that they continue to provide their essential care and support to our immediate and neighbouring communities so the hospice’s aim of ‘bringing care home’ meant they were an obvious choice for us.

“I’d like to thank all of our clients, suppliers and businesses partners from across the UK who attended our charity tournament as well as our staff who supported our in-house awareness week.”
