A new business and a well-established firm have both received support from Newport City Council.

Natasha Davies, who runs Because U Can in Stow Park Circle, was given a start-up grant from the council and UK Steel Enterprise.

Natasha, who worked in the mental health field for 16 years, offers coaching programmes and sessions to people who want to improve their mindset, grow their business and learn more about themselves so they can transform from a business owner into a powerful leader.

She also offers coaching for companies to enable them to motivate their staff and for more successful entrepreneurs to position their business for growth.

Solicitors Roger James Clements and partners were given a grant under the council’s key buildings scheme for their property in Bridge Street, Newport.

The expanding professional legal firm had taken over an empty premises next door to its office and the grant was used to restore what had become an eyesore and magnet for anti-social behaviour.

As the property is in a conservation area, the work had to meet restoration standards and satisfy the historical sensitivity of the area. The council was able to assist the firm to meet these challenges.

Councillor John Richards, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and development, said: “I am pleased that our officers have been able to help these businesses, and others, in the city and I’m sure they will continue to flourish.

“Despite the difficult financial situation, some financial assistance through grants and loans is available and we are grateful to UK Steel for its generosity in contributing to a grant fund. Our hard-working business support team is also able to provide invaluable support and advice to start-up enterprises, established companies and those wishing to locate in the city.”
