PROPERTY put up for sale by a Gwent local authority sold well at auction.

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council placed the properties on the market with Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions.

The start of the lot was the sale of a former animal pound building at Barleyfield Industrial Estate, Barleyfield Way, Nantyglo, Ebbw Vale which sold for more than four times its guide price.

The detached, industrial building, which is on a level compound situated on the eastern edge of the Barleyfield Industrial Estate, was previously used for the temporary housing of livestock offering a total space of 1,781 sq ft.

The property, which had a guide price of £25,000, sold after fierce bidding in the auction room for £101,000.

A former educational facility at Station Hill, Abertillery, close to the fire station had a guide price of £20,000.

The single storey building previously used as classrooms and with a large forecourt for off road parking sold for £33,000.

A third property, a three-storey office block on Commercial Street, Abertillery, was listed with a guide price of £20,000. The building with accommodation in the basement, ground, first and second floors sold for £36,000.

The former welding shop, also on the Barleyfield Industrial Esate offering a total of 6,036 sq ft in an industrial unit which had a guide price of £50,000, was eventually sold for £54,000.

Another substantial modern building put up for auction by the council, a sub office at Brynmawr, on Worcester Street, failed to find a buyer and remains available at £130,000.

Paul Fosh, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said: “The former animal pound created a huge amount of interest both before and during the auction with a number of bidders competing with each other to buy the large property with very useful surrounding compound area.

“We were very pleased to be able to offer these properties for sale on behalf of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council who we have worked with successfully in the past and look forward to continuing our relationship into the future.”

The auction last week saw a total of 46 of the 57 lots on offer, 81 per cent, being sold raising £3,154,000.
