Colleagues from electricity business Western Power Distribution are getting switched on in readiness for this year’s St David’s Hospice Care’s Three Peaks of Wales Challenge.

It’s the eighth successive year that the company, which has bases across South Wales and the South West, included Newport, has put its energy behind the gruelling endurance charity challenge.

Already eight staff have signed up to take part in the challenge which is being staged on Saturday, June 27, when teams of four will scale three of Wales’ tallest peaks – Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-y-Fan, in a single day.

As well as being the event’s main sponsor, WPD also encourages its staff to take an active part.

Entrant Geraint Davies said: “The two teams signed up are now training regularly. We’re also planning a dry run on each of the peaks before tackling them all in one go on the day.

“We’re not underestimating the challenge we have set ourselves, but it’s a great cause because St David’s Hospice Care for people suffering from progressive, life threatening illnesses and if we can help raise funds and get fit in the process then that’s a bonus.”
