Newport will be taking to the stage with cities including Sydney as guest speaker at the Liverpool International Waterfront Forum 2015 next month.
Liverpool International Waterfront Forum 2015 is a global platform for waterfront cities to come together to discuss common themes and build strong international alliance.
The concept for the forum, which was created in a partnership between Liverpool Waterfront Business Partnership and international consultancy Arup, will this year be hosted at the Cunard Building on Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head, on June 3 and 4, 2015.
LIWF provides vital understanding of the common themes which are shared by waterfront cities across the globe and the waterfront asset can be used to focus economic growth, attract inward investment and improved lifestyle of a waterfront city.
Will Godfrey, chief executive of Newport City Council, will be representing the city at the event.
The topic for discussion at the LIWF 2015 will be exploring the role of culture and place making as tools for fostering growth of waterfront cities.
Barangaroo South is Sydney’s largest urban renewal project since the 2000 Olympics and one of the most significant waterfront transformations currently underway anywhere in the world.
The development turns this former container wharf into a vibrant new waterfront financial district, with a mix of world-class office space, premium residential buildings, as well as shopping, dining, hotel, hospitality and public places.
Anita Mitchell, general manager sustainability for Lendlease, will represent the $6bn Barangaroo South waterfront urban renewal project.
Other cities taking part include Bristol, Belfast and Glasgow.
