The South Wales HR Network returns with its latest seminar next month, investigating the implications of the shared parental leave scheme for both employers and employees.

The HR Network, a joint venture between Newport-based recruitment and training agency Acorn and financial advisors Seer Green, aims to address topics that affect HR professionals.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 11 at the Village Urban Resort in Cardiff and will be led by Kate Matthews, director of HR and employment at business specialist law firm Greenaway Scott.

The SPL scheme will introduce new entitlement for working couples to take shared leave in the first year of their child’s life or in the first year after the child’s placement for adoption. The seminar will also investigate the implications this will have on businesses.

We established the HR Network in the hope that by bringing people together from across a wide spectrum of industries, people will be able to share best practice and identify topics that need to be addressed such as SPL.”

The scheme aims to enable mothers or primary adopters to return to work at an earlier date, without affecting the rest of the leave which is available to them, which can be shared with their partner. SPL has been available to parents since April 5, 2015 and allows up to 50 weeks of SPL and 37 weeks of shared parental pay for eligible parents.
