A leading South Wales caravan and motor home business is expanding after acquiring a new large premises close to its existing base in Newport.

Newport Caravans has bought a 10,982sq ft building on an almost one acre plot at Frederick Street to allow for growth in demand for its body shop operation.

The premises, the former Commercial Motors site, is adjacent to Newport Caravan’s existing retail location and extensive indoor showroom at Kings Parade.

Rob Lynch, director of Newport Caravans, said: “The new site we’ve purchased is perfect for our requirements. It’s very close to our current base and offers us four times as much space as we currently have for our workshop and body shop which will now be transferred to this new location.”

The new site will allow the business to boost its retail sales area for the display of more than 100 caravans and motor homes, with a combined value of some £2m, which range in price from £5,000 for a caravan to £80,000 plus for a top of the range motor home.

Mr Lynch said the expansion would lead directly to the employment of a further six, skilled body shop engineers adding to the 36 people currently employed by the business.

Newport Caravans has been established in Newport for seven years and attracts customers from across Wales and the west and as far afield as Scotland.

Haydn Thomas, of Hutchings and Thomas Chartered Surveyors, who identified the premises and handled the sale, said: “We’re delighted that we have been able to tick all the boxes to satisfy Newport Caravan’s precise requirements as regards the specific property it needed for its growth.

“The workshop space that the Newport Caravans has now acquired is four times what they currently have for their body shop and workshop. The location is ideal for the business bordering Newport’s SDR with its excellent motorway links.”
