AREA managers at leading supermarket Aldi are hoping to check out with a major contribution for St David’s Hospice Care after scaling the three tallest peaks of Wales.

A total of 19 Aldi managers from across south Wales and the West are currently in training and ready to pull on their hiking boots to tackle the gruelling Three Peaks of Wales Challenge.

The challenge, which is sponsored by Western Power Distribution (WPD), involves scaling three of Wales’ tallest peaks: Mount Snowdon, 3,560ft, Cadair Idris, 2, 927 ft and Pen-y-fan, 886m 2, 907ft, all in a single day.

The Three Peaks of Wales is staged on Saturday, June 27, with a 4am start at the foot of Snowdon.

Aldi area manager Natasha Price said managers in stores from Carmarthen to Abergavenny, Bristol, the West Midlands and Hereford, Gloucester and Ross-on-Wye, will make up four teams for the challenge.

Natasha said: “Everyone is training individually, as we are quite spread out geographically. As the challenge requires intense walking, training a minimum of three times a week is essential, as of course we want to be the fastest teams to complete the challenge.

“We’ve chosen to support St David’s Hospice Care as it is such a brilliant charity, and as the Hospice is based in Wales, we felt it was a great opportunity for us to help locally.”

Three Peaks of Wales event sponsor Paul Bishop, WPD’s corporate communications manager, said: “The excellent work of St David’s Hospice Care is very highly regarded and we are delighted to continue our association with the organisation by supporting the Three Peaks Challenge again this year.

“It’s a really worthwhile event which not only encourages people to enjoy the outdoors, but is brilliant for team building and great fun and all for such a great cause.”

Franca Macdonald, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We’re thrilled that the Aldi store managers have signed up for the Three Peaks of Wales Challenge and we look forward to seeing them all check out at the completion of the event.”
