Those wishing to hear Wales’ first billionaire, Sir Terry Matthews, speak at the next M4 Business Network breakfast should be aware that the date of the event has been moved to September 14.

The Welsh-Canadian business magnate will address an audience of South Wales’ leading business people on his home turf of the Celtic Manor Resort.

As the owner of the Celtic Manor Resort it was Sir Terry’s’ vision to bring the Ryder Cup to Newport in 2010 before securing the Resort as the host of the 2014 NATO Summit.

To date, he has founded and funded more than 100 companies, many in the hi-tech communications field. He is also founder and chairman of the Wesley Clover Foundation, an investment management firm and holding company, specialising in information and communications technologies, as well as exclusive real estate and leisure properties, and a charitable foundation.

M4 Business Network chairman and managing partner of UHY Hacker Young, Paul Byett, said: “The network is delighted to welcome Sir Terry Matthews as our next speaker. We are fortunate to have had many illustrious guests join us over the years, but none can claim to have brought as much to Wales and Newport in particular.

“As a business leader Sir Terry is unrivalled and I’m sure all those joining us in September are eager to gain an insight into the man who brought the Rider Cup and the leaders of the world to Wales.”

Sir Terry Matthews’ international tech business empire began with the formation of Mitel, which grew from a humble venture to export UK manufactured lawnmowers to Canada, into the world’s leading semiconductor manufactures for the telecoms industry.

Following Mitel, he founded Newbridge Networks and spearheaded its progression to become the world’s leading worldwide data networking manufacturer. It was Newbridge’s ultimate sale to Alcatel saw Sir Matthews become a billionaire with the single largest stake in Alcatel.
