The search has begun for outstanding women from all walks of Welsh life as nominations open for a new national honours programme created to celebrate their achievements.

Chwarae Teg, the charity which has championed the progress of women in the economy and society for almost 25 years, has called on organisations and individuals from Gwent and across Wales to put forward the names of those who have made a special contribution in their field of work or in their community.

The first winners of the new ‘Womenspire Awards’ will be announced at a high profile event in the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, in April 2016.

The Womenspire Awards will highlight the successes of women and employers from across many spheres including the media, education, business, innovation, sport and the public sector as well as in local communities across Wales.

The selection panel will be seeking to honour those who often go unnoticed – the unsung heroes who are doing great things themselves or helping other women and girls make the most of their potential.

Nominations for the honours are now open to all women and organisations working in Wales with the closing date for submitting nominations being Friday, January 8, 2016. To nominate a woman or organisation visit www.cteg.org.uk/womenspire.
