An architectural consultancy is celebrating the early success of the new Loftus Garden Village development in Newport, a 250-home site being built as part of a regeneration scheme spearheaded by Seren Group, Lovell, Newport City Council and the Welsh Government.

Hammond Architectural worked on the £28m housing complex, which has been built by developer Lovell.

Hammond Architectural Director Paul Collins said: “The first tenants moved in just before for Christmas, and all we’re hearing is positive feedback.

"Initially, we were brought on board to assist in preparing the drawings to accompany the reserved matter planning application for 250 units. However, we became more involved with the project as time went on; preparing working drawings for the construction of the houses which range from one to four bedroom properties.”

The St Mellons-based firm has been working on the innovative development for 18 months, with affordable housing not the only aim of the project.

Loftus Garden Village will create employment and training opportunities for residents and local people, with a concerted effort on developing an inclusive community. Another aim of the development is for at least 95 per cent of the waste generated during construction to be recycled.

“The Loftus Garden Scheme is a landmark development and certainly a feather in our cap,” said Mr Collins.

“We have a strong and trusting relationship with Seren Group, and we were delighted to work on another exciting project; especially given its progressive nature.”

Hammond Architectural has worked on a number of schemes across south Wales from Pembrokeshire to Caldicot, as well as the Midlands and south England ranging from 10 to 400 houses.
