Business leaders and owners in Newport are invited to attend the Newport City Summit on Tuesday, February 2.

Key speakers from some of Newport’s leading organisations will be attending this event, the third Newport City Summit, taking place at The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre.

A lot has happened in the last 12 months - the opening of Friars Walk in November 2015 was a major milestone for the city and many other key developments are well under way.

This year's summit will outline what's next for Newport to ensure that the city reaches its economic potential and supports Newport businesses.

Key speakers who will be presenting include Amanda Davies, the group chief executive of the Seren Group; Will Godfrey, chief executive of Newport City Council who will be talking about the City Deal; Matthew Turner from Cardiff University’s National Software Academy; Lee Jones, manager of the Lloyds Bank Contact Centre in Newport and local entrepreneur Roger Hiscott.

Will Godfrey, chief executive of Newport City Council, said: “It is very pleasing to see so many local businesses sign up to this year’s City Summit. More than 200 companies have already pledged their support and there is still a day left for anyone else who wants to register.

“This year’s summit will be examining what the future holds for Newport, building on the success of Friars Walk, and looking at ways we can work with and support Newport businesses.

“I would urge delegates to come and find out how we are staking our place in the proposed City Deal.”

Head teachers from the city’s secondary schools will also be attending to see how the skills and education agenda is developing in the city.

Attendance at the Newport City Summit is by prior registration only by Wednesday, January 27, 2016. You register at www.newport.gov.uk/citysummit.
