One of the UK’s leading tech events, which is held annually in Newport, has announced its headline host and first wave of speakers.

Digital 2016 will be held at Newport’s Celtic Manor Resort on June 6 and 7 and will focus on skills, security and the technologies of tomorrow.

Some of the names confirmed as speakers include Stephen Kelly, chief executive of accounting software Sage, Agency Partnerships EMEA of Twitter Martyn Baker and Wales’ first billionaire Sir Terry Matthews.

BBC Click presenter Lara Lewington will welcome 2,000 delegates, hosting the two days of talks, workshops, and panels.

Speakers will cover everything from the latest developments in IT software to exciting disruptive technologies such as Virtual Reality, Big Data, and the Internet of Things.

Speakers will include Paul Ferris, one of the founding members of the UK Digital Currency Association, Google’s account strategist Daniel Burlacu, Oscar Macea, of real-time customer relationship manager experts, Force Manager and CEO of CDW International Phil Doye.

Drawing on the latest in hacker insights, Allyson Brown, from South Wales Police, who leads many tech projects for the force, will explore the latest in prediction analytics and how they’re used to stop crimes, while John Davies, of South Wales Cyber Security Cluster, will deliver a speech investigating the latest advances in the world of hacking in ‘New Hacks You Just Can't Track.’

With Wales noted in this year’s Tech Nation report as having strengths in e-commerce, fintech and sports tech, the Showcase theme will look at how sectors of all kinds can harness the power of digital in order to excel.

Gareth Jones, founder of Welsh ICE, an innovation company for start-ups, will examine the current gaps in provision, while founder of Cardiff Start, Neil Cocker, will delve into the many funding streams available in Wales and how start-ups can access them.

With more speakers to be announced in the coming weeks, registration is now open and organisers are calling for developers, entrepreneurs, and tech businesses to book their free space now, as tickets to the two day event are set to be snapped up quickly. Limited exhibitor spaces are also on sale with a high show of demand.

The event is being organised by Innovation Point, the new digital innovation company for Wales which works at the point where new, developing and disruptive technology ideas find a way to grow.
