A NEW video company set up by two Newport University students has got off to a flying start.

Hammerspace Video, run by Matt James and James Stewart specialises in profile films for businesses who want to make an impact.

Matt James said: "We try to tell their story in as short a time as possible. Most of our work is between 90 seconds and two minutes long, and we find this is most effective.

“We take what you might call an editorial approach to the subject, building a narrative to get their message across.”

He said that people were not keen to watch lengthy film footage, generally preferring shorter and sharper offerings.

“We condense the organisation’s message into a crisp narrative, telling their story succinctly.”

Hammerspace Video, based in Blaina, has received support from the Kickstart programme run jointly by Tata Steel subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise and Blaenau Gwent Council. A Kickstart grant of £643 was used to buy camera equipment. The firm was also supported by BG Effect.

Hammerspace Video is working with local companies in north Gwent and further afield, producing films for their web sites and promotional material.

Ruth Headon, of UK Steel Enterprise, said: "Hammerspace Video is a young firm with an imaginative outlook and fresh ideas, and we wish them all success in developing their business.”

Sarah Jeremiah, of Blaenau Gwent County Council, said: “It has been great to support Matt and James in realising their business ambition.

“The knowledge, passion and energy that accompany their filming skills will ensure that Hammerspace Video will provide a fresh and professional impact for businesses who want to increase their marketing potential."
