Christmas is less than a month away. Offices are decked out in their festive finery and workers, keen on making the most of this time of year, can want to have festive music playing throughout December.

Business Argus asked local business people if they allowed music in the office, and what their favourite Christmas songs were...

John Newell, director, Kingston Newell Estate Agents, Newport

We love to enter into the Christmas spirit at what is for us a particularly busy time of the year as people make their new year resolutions to move house, start new lives. Personally, my favourite festive tune is Fairytale of New York by The Pogue featuring Kirsty MacColl, an all-time classic.

Jakko Brouwers, director, The Morrello Clinic, Newport

It's the most wonderful time of the year by Andy Williams is my favourite Christmas song. It gives me a lovely warm, festive feeling when I hear it. We will have music on in the clinic as our patients find it relaxing while waiting and during their appointments.

Leanne Fieldhouse RVN, practice manager, Budget Vets

I think Shakin’ Stevens ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ is a great Christmas song. The decorations are ready to come out in all of our branches. Being animal lovers, the John Lewis advert featuring Buster the Dog has been a firm favourite at Budget Vets this year.

Erin Davies, M4 Property Consultants, Newport

We’ve left it until December to get excited about Christmas (although ‘Love Is All Around’ did come on the radio last week and we couldn’t help but sing along with Bill Nighy’s ‘Love Actually’ version). It’s a busy time of year in every way, and there’s still lots of work to be done! We do, however, have some great hum-ers in the office and there is a definite correlation between Christmas music and volume increase. How can you choose a favourite? Bing Crosby, Wham, Chris Rea…all the classics come back year after year and we love them all.

Geraint Yeo, general manager, David Spear Commercial, Tredegar

It wouldn’t be Christmas if the sound of Nat King Cole and Michael Buble wasn’t playing in the background. I’ll always support putting a smile on the faces of all the staff members and indeed our customers here. For the record (excuse the pun) my all-time favourite Christmas song must be (Fairytale of New York – The Pogues).

Beverley Jones, The Corporate Angel, Monmouthshire

I don't have any staff but if I did, then yes I would let them listen to Christmas music as for me it brings Christmas alive. My favourite song is Peace on Earth by Bing Crosby and David Bowie as it really sums up what Christmas is all about.
