For the second year running, a Gwent junior rugby team has been kitted out by a leading local electronics manufacturer.

Newbridge-based Axiom Manufacturing Services has provided the Islwyn School Under 15s squad with professional standard kit for this season's Dewar Shield Competition.

Islwyn Schools Rugby provides opportunities for young rugby players from schools across the area to reach their potential and find the right pathway for developing their skills in the future.

The Islwyn Schools Under 15s squad includes players from schools across Gwent, including: Oakdale, Pontllanfraith, Risca, Newbridge, Cwmcarn, Blackwood and Cwm Rhwmni Comprehensive Schools.

The squad will train under the guidance of Pontypridd RFC’s former Wales Under 18s scrumhalf Joel Raikes and flanker Scott Matthews of the Newport Gwent Dragons and Wales Under 20s.

Raikes said: “We are extremely grateful for all the help Axiom Manufacturing Services continue to provide us with as our main sponsor.

“Having a bespoke kit makes these young players look and feel the part for what will be an exciting season. We’ve got a quality group of young people in the squad, so combined with a committed coaching staff and renewed support from Axiom, we’re expecting big things.

David Davies, managing director of Axiom Manufacturing Services, said: “We are a local employer, and therefore our success is rooted in the local community. As such, we are extremely proud to be associated with Islwyn Schools Rugby for another year.

“With the right resources and coaching staff behind them there’s no telling how far these players could go, and Islwyn Schools Rugby is an excellent example of programme that helps talented youngsters fulfil their potential. We wish them all the best for the season ahead.”
