Newport Market has welcomed two new businesses into the historic building in the heart of the city’s High Street.

Award-winning Fish Shack, a family-run business with more than 50 years of experience, will be trading every Friday from 9am to 3pm. It is situated opposite established fruit and vegetable stall, Love Fresh.

Rani Manship has set up the Eyebrow Bar which is open six days a week and offers threading, facial cleansing, make-up and body waxing.

Councillor Debbie Wilcox, leader of Newport City Council, said: “It is fantastic to see that new businesses are being attracted to the city’s oldest ‘shopping centre’ and I wish Fish Shack and Rani all the best for the future.

“We are working with our partners Newport Norse, who manage the market, to promote and support our local independent traders as we want our traditional market to grow and flourish. I would encourage shoppers to make it part of their visit to the city centre and discover what it has to offer.”

Winner of the Seafood Supplier of the Year in Wales 2016, Fish Shack has a mission to bring fresh fish to as many communities as possible.

As part of the Vin Sullivan Group, it is able to source a wide range of fresh fish daily and offer it to the public at a fair price. Fish can be filleted, skinned and gutted by a knowledgeable and friendly team.

Tom Rudge, spokesperson for the company, said: “We felt that communities in the surrounding area were receiving little or no choice at all when it came to their fresh fish and shellfish.

“Upon learning that Newport has recently lost its fishmongers, we felt it was a fantastic opportunity to bring our offering to the city.”

To pre-order fish or to find out more about their services email sales@fishshack.co.uk; telephone 01495 796617 or find them on Facebook.

The Eyebrow Bar is open from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and can be contacted on 07412 802744,

Rani worked in the beauty industry in Pakistan for 10 years before moving to the UK.

She said: “We set up in Newport Market because of its warm and friendly atmosphere and its popularity with local people. Newport Norse has been very helpful in assisting us to set up our parlour.”
