GD Environmental, a Newport-based waste management company, has appointed Oliver Hazell as its new chief executive officer.

Mr Hazell, who is 27, becomes the company’s youngest head.

Mr Hazell has set out a bold strategy of investment and growth for the future with the aim of doubling turnover and creating new jobs.

There are plans to invest in GD Environmental’s sites across Wales in Newport, Pontypool and Llanelli which will see expansion and new equipment installed.

There will also be investment in new vehicles, strengthening the company’s position in the drainage and liquid waste sectors and helping create one of the most modern waste management fleets in Wales.

Mr Hazell takes up the role having previously been operations manager for the company.

Prior to this he was acting managing director of MDW Europe Ltd, responsible for up to 90 staff in a multimillion-pound turnover commodities trading, services and haulage company.

He also held the role of project engineer at Leighton Offshore in Dubai, an international engineering, procurement and construction company centred on the offshore oil and gas sectors.

Mr Hazell said: “I am excited to take up this role and am looking forward to helping GD Environmental fulfil the potential it has in Wales. My aim is to double turnover in the next two years by strengthening our position through investment and potential acquisition. I am confident that our Welsh focused strategy will create value for the Welsh Economy and am proud to be able to lead it in what promises to be a very exciting period.”

GD Environmental was established in 2003 and is a provider of all forms of waste management. This includes both domestic and commercial services such as skip hire, drainage and tanker services, asbestos removal, construction services and recycling.
