Monmouth-based Siltbuster has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Construction News Awards.

The company has been shortlisted in the Commercial Innovation of the Year category for its EcoClear system, developed in collaboration with Swedish company Aquajet.

The EcoClear enables highly toxic wastewater produced during the demolition of concrete to be treated to a very high standard, making it safe for discharge back into the natural environment.

The result of more than two years of research and development, EcoClear not only has huge environmental benefits, it also saves construction companies money as, prior to its development, the only safe way to dispose of this waste water was to collect and tanker it off site at a significant cost.

Dr Richard Coulton, CEO of Siltbuster, said: “We pride ourselves on being environmental trailblazers, offering innovative water treatment solutions to the construction industry and this award shortlisting is recognition of the great work we’re doing. We’re establishing a centre of excellence here in Monmouth, expanding our workforce and investing in a larger building, so we’re really pleased to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award.”

Construction News editor Tom Fitzpatrick said: “This year’s Construction News Awards shortlist showcases the best that UK construction has to offer, both for the economy and for communities across the UK and internationally.

“In uncertain economic times ahead of Brexit, construction businesses are getting on with keeping the UK moving. They are building the infrastructure, homes and workplaces this country desperately needs and we’re proud to recognise those companies striving to create an ever more productive, diverse and talented industry.”

Before the awards, to be held in July, all finalists will attend face-to-face judging by members of the 60-strong jury, made up of the most influential construction experts in the UK including representatives of Hammerson, Battersea Power Station Development, Sainsbury’s and London Underground.

The award winners will be announced on July 13, 2017, at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
