Nick Battersby, managing director of award-winning Chepstow-based Reid Lifting, will be guest speaker at the City of Newport Business club's next meeting, on May 18.

Mr Battersby has been MD of Reid Lifting, which is based on the Newhouse Industrial Estate, since 2000, growing the company from two to 42 people and from £250,000 to £5m turnover with exports representing 50 per cent of sales.

Reid products are used across a wide range of sectors in applications ranging from lifting sewage pumps in waste water treatment, to lock gate replacement by British Waterways, to the movement of priceless monuments in the world’s leading museums such as the Vatican, and the British and Victoria & Albert Museums.

The company recently invested £4m in a purpose-built factory in Chepstow, new machine tools, new systems and additional staff ready for the next phase of the company’s growth.

Reid Lifting has become established as the pioneer in the design and manufacture of lightweight, portable lifting equipment for manual lifting applications and has won the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2006 and a double Award for Innovation and International Trade in 2013.

The City of Newport Business Club presents four speaker-led dinner events each season.

It brings together like-minded business people from Newport and the surrounding area to create an informal, friendly forum for discovery, discussion, debate and networking.

Events are held at the Augusta Suite, Celtic Manor Resort at 5.30pm.
