PEOPLE of all ages and walks of life are being encouraged to submit entries for the 125 Appeal photography competition to help raise money for St David’s Hospice Care, which is being backed by a number of Gwent businesses.

The theme for the photography competition, which is sponsored by Mamhilad Park Estates, Pontypool-based Johnsey Estates, is heritage. Newport financial services business Kymin will provide the winners’ trophies.

You don’t need to have the most expensive camera equipment or to be a professional photographer to be in with a chance to win. Photographs taken with smart phones have the potential to look just as professional as one taken with an expensive camera.

To prove the point keen smart phone photographer Ollie Barnes, account executive at Newport-based David Barnes Public Relations who is helping to organise the competition, took this photograph.

Ollie, aged 19, of Chepstow, said: “This is a straightforward interpretation of the competition theme of heritage. Other entrants may have more off the wall ideas.

“Almost everyone has at least a camera phone these days so come on get them out and get snapping. We’re looking for a whole range of entries from as many people as possible and it’s all for a very good cause as all the money from entries goes straight to St David’s Hospice Care. There are great prizes for the winners too so what are you waiting for?”

The winner of the 17 and over category wins dinner bed and breakfast at the five star Celtic Manor Resort; the winner of the 16 and under category wins an activity day for four at Celtic Manor Resort.
