Newport's Office for National Statistics welcomed students from the city's St Mary’s Primary School for a learning exchange day all about computer coding.

During their visit pupils presented projects and a game which they have been working on in their after school Coding Club with ONS staff member Jan Murdoch. They also created a reindeer robot and learned how to code messages and festive emojis’ with ONS staff.

This was followed by an exciting session using the ONS' Data Science Campus' programmable Lego.

Victoria Pickering, of ONS, said: “Here at ONS we are always improving our skills as technology develops, and aim to help others to do the same. We thought this would be a really fun way to encourage more staff to get involved in coding and open up conversations for them to have with their families."
