Gypsy Jayne Tattoo Studio, in Risca, Newport, has moved to new premises thanks to a five-figure funding deal from NatWest.

The business, which is well known in the area with a waiting list of more than 12 months, has moved to a new shop on Commercial Street after securing a £63,000 funding package from the bank.

Owner Kylie Evans-Talbot, 30, decided to make the move from her old location after out-growing the space on Elm Drive, which was just about big enough to house herself and three other artists.

With such high demand for Gypsy Jayne tattoos, the move will allow for more artists to work in the studio and increase bookings.

Kylie started Gypsy Jayne Tattoo Studio in 2009 when she was 22-years-old. After working in various studios, the artist, who has appeared on Channel 4’s My Tattoo Addiction and Prynhawn Da, decided to start her own.

Nine years on, Kylie now has a hugely successful tattoo studio and as well as giving local talent a chance to show their skills, she also nurtures apprentices to help them become qualified artists.

Kylie said: “Since opening Gypsy Jayne almost a decade ago, the move to a bigger space was inevitable. I established the studio just before the massive boom in tattoos and it has been getting busier and busier ever since.

“The move into the new studio couldn’t have gone more smoothly. After hearing that I was looking for a bigger space, I was approached by my neighbours who were looking to retire from their shoe shop Fitwell.

“I was offered a very reasonable price for the shop and, with support from NatWest and my family, decided to make the move.”

Joanne Kinsey, relationship manager for NatWest, said: “When I first spoke with Kylie, it was clear that Gypsy Jayne had outgrown the old shop and that the move was much needed. The new space looks great and I have no doubt that the business will grow to be even more successful than it already is.”

Aveo Finance Ltd T/A HCF and NatWest business development manager Ian Pottle also supported the deal activity.
