The Newport-based Office for National Statistics, along with Careers Wales, hosted a student insight day for around 100 local sixth form pupils.

The maths, business studies and economics students were given an insight in to the ONS by taking part in discussions and economic stats quizzes about inflation. They also found out about the various career paths available at ONS and given career advice with CV and application forms.

Georgia Tasker-Davies, of the ONS, said: “Instead of offering the traditional work experience placement this year we decided to welcome more than 100 local pupils to our Newport office who were given the chance to get involved in discussions about the economy and meet with staff across the ONS."

Kate Thomas, of Careers Wales, said: “The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with a large local employer, and to gain an insight into the career opportunities available on their doorstep."
