THE BID pays for all Levy Payers to be part of the Newport Business against Crime Partnership. Here we answer your questions about NBaC.

What is a business crime partnership?

NBaC is a not-for-profit crime reduction partnership run by business members which helps to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Why do we need a business crime partnership?

The police and businesses cannot address business crime issues by working separately. In Newport the daily provision of images and information to BID Levy payers leads on to persons being deterred from entering and shoplifting from premises, and from causing disorder inside and outside pubs and clubs via the Pub Watch scheme.

How does Newport Business against Crime operate?

We run a formal information-sharing scheme amongst our members that targets persistent offenders.

How do we communicate with members?

We use a digital radio network that all members may access that has links with the local authority CCTV control room, and the police. We also share information, photographs and intelligence between members and other partners, such as the probation service, via a secure intranet called DISC.

Each week we send an e-bulletin out to all our members containing information they and the police have shared with us including police photographs of known offenders operating in the city centre.

What does NBaC do for BID Levy payers?

NBaC is a partner of the Newport Now BID. The BID has sponsored new radios carried by the police, BID Ambassadors and Street Pastors, as well as providing free membership of the DISC system to all BID members. We also work with the BID Manager in delivering its Safe and Secure theme and objectives.

If you have not previously received an invite to access the database or are interested in joining our radio scheme please contact us via newportabc@hot-mail.co.uk or via Newport Now manager Kevin Ward – kevin@kevinwardmedia.com.
