Food producers and crafts people from the Wye Valley and beyond were at Chepstow Racecourse at the weekend for the inaugural Wye Valley Food Festival.

The festival, the first to be staged, was held over two days at the racecourse and saw crowds flocking to sample everything on offer.

One local business which was keen to capitalise on the opportunity to spread the word on their wares was local dairy Mead Farm Foods.

Izabela Hembrow, of Mead Farm Foods, Redwick, near Magor, said: “We saw the Wye Valley Food Festival, which is just down the road from our dairy at Redwick, as a perfect opportunity for us not only to promote our fair trade milk, butter and other homemade dairy products but all our doorstep deliveries.

“We were pleased with the footfall at the festival which, as it was free to attend, was busy over the two days. We had a great location close to the entry and next door to a yummy brownie stall so we were busy.

"We’re keen to support these kind of events and to spread the word about the great products that we have and which we are developing at our Monmouthshire dairy.”

The free-entry Wye Valley Food Festival, which took place at Chepstow Racecourse, showcased a range of hot and cold food and drink from around the Wye Valley and beyond.

There were craft and gift stalls and The Chef’s Theatre, which was hosted by Penny Lewis, of the Culinary Cottage Cookery School, near Abergavenny. Demonstrations and talks included foragers Henry Ashby, of Wild Food 365 who supplies the Michelin star restaurant The Whitebrook, near Monmouth, author and food writer Adele Nozedar and self-taught baker and GP Rachael Watson, who runs the Abergavenny Baker School of Artisan Breads.

Organiser, Katharine Skellon, said: “The Wye Valley and the surrounding areas, has an amazing array of suppliers of great food and drink. Our mission was to bring people together to explore what’s on offer and have a great day out at our first foodie feast in Monmouthshire.

Mead Farm Foods, on 190-acres, delivers its home-produced milk locally to families and businesses in Redwick and areas of Undy, Magor, Caldicot, Langstone, Chepstow and Tutshill, taking orders online.
