KIM Buckley’s partner David Parker told the court the relationship between Mills and Kayleigh “should never have happened”.

Giving evidence, Mr Parker, who had been in a relationship with Kim Buckley for around 10 years, said both of them had disapproved of the relationship.

He described how Kayleigh had met Mills on the internet but had kept it secret at first. But they were then told about the relationship by Ms Buckley’s son Shaun.

Mills would then come to South Wales to see Kayleigh but this led to Kayleigh sometimes playing truant from school.

He said Ms Buckley didn’t approve of the relationship and “wasn’t impressed” by the age gap.

Mr Parker added that he also “wasn’t impressed” the first time he met Mills and that Mills had nothing to say to him.

When asked about his opinion on the relationship, he replied: “It should never have happened.

I don’t know what he had over her.”

He told the court Kim Buckley, who he described as his “life”, had once given Mills “the benefit of the doubt” towards the end of August and asked him to stay at the house to look after the dogs while she and Kayleigh stayed at the hospital.

But when Mr Parker went to the house the next day, he found electric wires for the television and a fish tank had been cut and there was dog mess all over the floor upstairs.

He said Mills wasn’t allowed back in the house after this but Kayleigh bought a tent which was put up in the front garden for Mills to sleep in with Kayleigh. He said Ms Buckley didn’t approve but wanted her daughter safe and knew where she was.

But describing the day baby Kimberley was brought home from hospital Mr Parker said he had seen Kayleigh sat at home on the sofa with the baby in her arms.

He said: “I asked her what does it feel like to be a mum now. She gave me the biggest smile ever.”
