HUNDREDS of people across Gwent got together for Sunday lunch yesterday to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.

Organisers estimate that more than six million people across the UK took part in the annual event which this year was also celebrating the Queen's jubilee through traditional street parties to picnic lunches in local parks.

This included a picnic on Chepstow's riverbank, a traditional party in Llanmartin and an indoor street party at Crawley Hall, Bryngwyn, near Raglan.

Big Jubilee Lunch director Peter Stewart said: "We have been bowled over by the response from people up and down the country who not only wanted to get together and have lunch with their neighbours, but wanted to celebrate this very special occasion in a time-honoured fashion."
