INVESTING £7.5 billion in Wales’ infrastructure and ensuring the country can continue to operate in the European market without barriers post-Brexit are central to Plaid Cymru’s General Election manifesto.

The party launched its manifesto, which also includes commitments to train and recruit 1,000 more doctors and 5,000 more nurses, guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in Wales and give 16 and 17-year-olds the vote, yesterday, Tuesday.

Leader Leanne Wood also said MPs would put pressure on the UK government to introduce a comprehensive plan for the steel industry.

Unveiling the manifesto, Ms Wood said: “In all parts of our country, buildings which are the bedrock of our vital public services are creaking.

“Much of our housing stock is decades old and in decay.

“The state of our roads and railways are going backwards when they should be taking us forward as a nation.

“Many of our towns and cities are still living in the shadow of deindustrialisation.

“Now is the time to kick-start a genuine economic recovery in Wales by investing in every part of our country.”

Speaking ahead of the launch in Penygraig in the Rhondda, Ms Wood said: “This election takes place in extraordinary circumstances.

“Our economy, our communities and even our very identity as a nation face grave risks from a cruel and reckless Tory party.

“The action plan we will be unveiling today is a fully-costed, comprehensive set of proposals designed to withstand those risks.

“At its heart is a commitment to securing a resilient Welsh economy and to safeguarding the future of our treasured public services.

“Be it on tourism, farming, higher education or jobs, we are determined to overcome the threats and seek out and seize upon the opportunities which may come with leaving the EU.

“Plaid Cymru always has and always will be a strong voice for Wales in Westminster.

“Our loyalty is to the people who live here.”

Plaid Cymru is running candidates in all 40 constituencies in Wales.

Three Plaid Cymru MPs were elected to Parliament in 2015.
