AN UNPROVOKED attack on a Polish man is being treated as racially motivated by police in Chepstow.

Police are appealing for information after the assault left the 34-year-old victim in hospital needing stitches to his face.

The incident happened in the Bulwark area at about 10.30pm on Friday August 8.

It is the second assault in three weeks to be treated by police as racially aggravated. The first assault took place on July 20 on Bulwark Road against three Asian men, as reported by the Free Press.

Three youths aged 14, 15 and 17 were arrested at the time of the latest incident and have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police said the victim, who has not been named for operational reasons, had endured a group of youths knocking on his door on three occasions during the evening.

When he finally opened his door he was verbally abused and physically assaulted while his wife and small child were upstairs.

He was later taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
