A CHEPSTOW family who lost their home after an arson attack are appealing for someone to look after their dog.
Pamela and Robert Dumayne and their children were made homeless after a fire at their St Ewens Road home on November 10. Mr and Mrs Dumayne and their children Ryan, 16, Joshua, 13 and Katie Dumayne, 12, and 18-year-old Christopher Davies, are currently living in a bed and breakfast in Chepstow.
Monmouthshire Housing Association offered them homes in Abergavenny and Monmouth but the family wanted to stay in Chepstow because the community has been so supportive.
Mrs Dumayne said the Association has offered them a two bedroom flat in Caldicot but there is insufficient space there for a dog as well as their three cats.
The family is therefore appealing for somebody to look after their Staffordshire bull terrier Roxy until after Christmas.
Mrs Dumayne said: “I know it’s a lot to ask but I don’t know what else to do.”
The family lost nearly all of their possessions in the fire but old school friend Carol Ranford, now a supervisor at Spar on Bulwark Road, has collected nearly £200 for the family at the shop.
Ms Ranford said: “They deserve something done for them. If I was in that situation I’d like to think others would do the same."
Mrs Dumayne said the money will be used for food and clothes for the children.
Donna Brinkley, who used to work with Mrs Dumayne, is placing collection boxes for the family in other shops in Chepstow.
Gwent Police arrested two 15-year-old boys and two 13-year-old boys from the local area on suspicion of arson. They were released on police bail and police said enquiries are still ongoing.
