TEN thousand people flocked to Chepstow on Friday night to see Welsh pop icon Tom Jones perform.

The concert, held at Chepstow Racecourse, followed seven live horse races and was one of the highlights of the year for the town.

The racenight was Chepstow’s second music concert racenight of 2014, after Jools Holland, Melanie C and Marc Almond lit up the venue last month.

Madness was enjoyed by a sell-out crowd in 2013.

It is the first time in seven years that the legendary singer has returned to perform in Wales at the sell-out concert.

Many queued for hours to secure their place at the front of the stage to hear the crooner belt out some of his old favourites including 'Delilah' 'Green Green Grass of Home' as well as new material, whilst many in the crowd waved glow sticks.

Phil Bell, executive director at Chepstow Racecourse: “It was wonderful to have a Welsh legend here for his first concert in his homeland for seven years.”
