A WOMAN has died following a road traffic collision in Tintern.

The incident happened at around midday on the A466 just north of Tintern and involved a blue Ford Fiesta and a grey Opel Manta.

An elderly lady travelling in the back of the Ford Fiesta died at the scene. 

The three other occupants travelling in the Fiesta received neck/leg injuries which were not life threatening.

There were two people travelling in the Opel Manta.  The male driver received life threatening injuries and the female passenger received leg injuries which were not life threatening.

All injured parties have been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for treatment.

The Ford Fiesta was travelling south towards Chepstow and the Opel Manta was travelling north towards Monmouth.

The A466 is currently closed in both directions whilst emergency services are at the scene and the vehicles are recovered.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the vehicles on their journeys prior to the collision.

SIX people are now known to have been seriously injured in the head-on crash in Tintern.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it had sent more ambulances to the scene of the accident on the A466.

One casualty has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

TWO people received “serious” injuries after a head-on collision in Tintern today.

The accident involving two cars took place on the A466 at around 11.20am, the Welsh Ambulance Service said.

One casualty has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said one of the casualties was male and the other female.

Around 15 firefighters also dealt with the accident. Medics are still at the scene of the crash.
