A GWENT restaurant received one of 14 Michelin stars announced today.

The Crown at Whitebrook, who we reported has had three AA rosettes this year, is one of two Welsh restaurants given the honour in the latest Michelin Guide.

Chris Harrod, 40, head chef and owner, said: "It is amazing news and now it makes five Michelin starred restaurants in Wales. We found out today at 7.30am when they were announced, so all chefs around the country were on tenter hooks waiting.

"It's brilliant as we've been open under 12 months. It has been one of my dreams to have my own Michelin-starred restaurant and now 10 years of hard work has paid off.

The other Welsh winner, the Ynyshir Hall in Machynlleth, joins the select band with eateries ranging from country pubs to "hipster hangouts" among the 14 latest stars.

The prestigious guide, widely considered to be the pinnacle of restaurant ratings, has also awarded The Treby Arms in Devon, owned by MasterChef 2012 winner Anton Piotrowski, which is one of three new pubs to gain a star.
