MORE than 50 Santas will be scuba diving at Chepstow driving centre on Sunday.

Scuba Santas is a charity event, encouraging as many scuba divers as possible to dress in a Santa Claus costume and enjoy the fun of a festive dive, while raising money for charity. The event aims to gather as many Scuba Santas together as possible, to try and break their previous record of 158.

This year more than 50 people have already signed up and organisers expect more on the day. They hope to raise more than £2,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and for DDRC Healthcare, a hyperbaric medical facility and specialists in diving health.

Since 2007, Scuba Santas has raised over £20,000 for charity. The Santas will be getting in the water at 11am at the National Diving and Activity Centre.

Louise Walsh, DDRC Healthcare’s marketing and fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted to be helping to organise this fantastic annual event and very grateful for the support of our hosts, the National Diving and Activity Centre, as well as all those raising money for the RNLI and DDRC Healthcare.”
