A MAGOR primary school is supporting the villages' campaign for a walkway rail station.

Pupils and staff at Magor Church in Wales Primary School have made banners in support of the crowd funding project from Magor Action Group on Rail (MAGOR) who are trying to raise £20,000. Pupils are going to be show their support by collecting any unwanted loose change and will be creating a train track in the school hall, using the money collected.

The rail group launched their crowd funding campaign last month with an aim to raise the money for a feasibility study. If successful, the group is aiming for a March 2018 opening for the walkway station.

The school’s eco council met last year with Jessica Morden MP and members of the MAGOR to discuss the benefits of a station. In December, some pupils featured in the crowd funding campaign video.

Izzie Harries, a Year Five pupil, said: “The idea of a station within walking distance and helping us keep healthy is spectacular. I also find it important as the station would improve our safety with less cars and traffic.”

Rachel Quine added: “I think that it would be good because there won’t be so many traffic jams and accidents.”

People can donate their loose change to the school from February 23 to February 26. The deadline for donations online to the crowdfunder site is 10.05am on March 2.
