HUNDREDS of people and animals attended a dog show held at Caldicot Castle today.

The event’s organiser Kate Edwards, who has worked at the castle as grounds assistant for nearly a year after moving to Monmouthshire, said: “It’s gone very well. There’s lots of local people - and obviously dogs.”

She said the event had been so successful she was hopeful of not only doing one next year but potentially two.

Over 600 people attended the event, raising over £500 for the Dogs for the Disabled charity.

Classes including best in show, dog with the waggiest tail, best child handler and dog most like its owner. There were also opportunities for dog owners and their pets to go to a dog training clinic, and an ask a vet session and a grooming parlour.

The 12 most popular photographed dogs will also be included in a Dogs of Caldicot Castle calendar.

And she said the manager of the castle, Mike Booth, had helped her out putting the event together and that she had arranged it in her spare time.

Kirsty Thomas from Four Paws Animal Rescue said of the event: “It’s been really good. There’s been lots of support for the whole event.”
