HUNDREDS of people enjoyed cycling around Caldicot Castle yesterday as part of an organised bike bash.

Around 400 people took part in the event organised by Building Bridges, a Lottery funded project which support young people with additional needs to get involved in activities and work related options in Monmouthshire.

The event saw people cycle on adapted bikes including a tandem, platform bikes which wheelchairs users can use and trikes.

The bikes were provided by Quest 88 and Pedalabikeaway.

Fred Weston, of Building Bridges, said: "Everybody has really enjoyed themselves here today. We've had some really good feedback.

"It's really nice to see able bodied people with people with disabilities riding the same bikes. We hope in the future to be able to have cycle hire here at the castle which will offer our young people an opportunity to volunteer and learn about the bike trade."

There were live music performances from Resonant Collective with gong baths and Daisy Hale, a 13-year-old. Two winners from the Monmouth Busking Festival also performed which were Ellen Commbe, a singer songwriter, and Silurian, a country rock and blues band.

Caldicot Library's knit and natter group created a knitted canon cover for a canon at the castle grounds. There were stalls including Love Zimbabwe and Mencap, the charity for people with learning disabilities.
