CHILDREN and staff at a Monmouthshire school remembered a much-loved teacher who died suddenly at the weekend with two special events this week.

Mum-of-three Tanya Floyd, 40, had worked at Undy Primary School since 1998 and taught Reception classes since last year.

A book of condolence has been opened in the school’s foyer and a special assembly for staff and pupils was held yesterday morning, led by Reverends Jeremy Harris and Allan Davies.

Later a silent tribute was held for her in the school’s Foundation Phase playground.

The school’s headteacher Mark Gunn said: “We are united in our grief at the sudden and tragic loss of a dearly loved friend and incredible teacher who will be missed terribly by our school community.

“Mrs Floyd was the most caring, positive and calm lady whose empathy and thoughtfulness we will never forget. Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and love are with her family, her husband and three precious boys at this desperately tragic time.

“Our Undy family will never be the same again. Mrs Floyd will always be with us. Her laugh and beautiful smile forever in our hearts.”

All pupils were given a ribbon to tie to the school’s fence in Mrs Floyd’s memory and flowers were left under a tree close to its nursery.

The school, on Pennyfarthing Lane, was closed on Monday as staff and pupils learned of Mrs Floyd’s death.

A written tribute and a collection of photos of her with pupils and colleagues – including ones taken from school trips and one featuring her and colleagues dressed as Wally from the Where’s Wally? books – have been placed on the school’s website.

Mrs Floyd, who lived in Cowbridge, was also the school’s PE coordinator. She had taught all years at the school and in its nursery between 2003 until 2014.

Monmouthshire council's chief officer for children and young people Sarah McGuinness said: "We’re deeply sad to hear of this news. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, colleagues and pupils."
