VILLAGERS are being urged to have a say on the future of their countryside park.

Drop-in community consultation events about Rogiet Countryside Park are being held, and Monmouthshire council officers, Rogiet Primary School and volunteers want to hear what people think about the site.

The events are in the school's main hall from 3pm to 7pm this Friday and 10am to midday on Saturday.

They will be overseen by Shirley Hughes, an experienced community development officer, who has held similar sessions in the county's villages and worked with the Countryside Services on open land in Chepstow and Abergavenny.

The community consultations are seen as an important stage in a process to encourage residents of Rogiet to help plan and shape the future use of Rogiet Countryside Park, so all ages can use this local facility.

Mark Langley, head countryside warden who helps manage the site, said: “Rogiet Countryside Park is a superb asset on the edge of the village. We would be very interested to find out what residents think of the area and how we can manage the site for the benefit of the community and the primary school.

"We would also be keen to set up a friends group to help look after the area.”

"The site has a very interesting past, as the old marshalling yards for the railway. If anyone has any old photographs or stories about the site please come along to the consultations and share them.”
