A CALDICOT brewery will officially open its first pub on Friday.

The family-run Castles Brewery has renovated the King’s Head pub on Welsh Street in Chepstow after it took over its lease late last month.

The Micic family, who brew and sell their beers on the Severn Bridge Industrial Estate, will also sell their White Knight, Portcullis, King’s Reserve and Court Jester ales at the pub.

Nathan Micic, who runs the brewery, said: “It’s great. The option arose and before we knew it things were just kicking off and I have been every almost every day, just trying to get things in place.”

Sons Nathan and Matthew, dad Mike and mum Carolyn, who are directors of Castles, have appointed a manager, Zoe Evans, who will take care of the day to day running of the pub.

They have also set up another company, Monmouthshire Inns, in view of opening others around the county.

The brewery usually makes up to 50 casks of real ale – about 3,600 pints – a week and sells it to wholesalers as far afield as Cheshire.

Ambitious plans for the King’s Head include renovating its second and third floors. On its third floor there will be a multi-function room which will be hired out for fitness classes while on the second there will be a cocktail bar.

But work is expected to take months to complete. Mr Micic said work on the second floor could be completed by August to September and within two to three months on the third floor development.

The new King’s Head will be open from 11am until 12am on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 11am until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and from 11am until 11pm on Sundays.
