MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council has been applauded for its work protecting animals in the area.
The authority has been handed a gold award in the contingency planning category in the RSCPA’s Community Animal Welfare Footprint awards.
And Newport City Council has also been awarded gold in the stray dogs category of the awards, which recognises authorities which have taken steps to protect animals in their area.
RSPCA Cymru’s public affairs manager Paul Smith said: “Local authorities, housing providers and contingency planners have a huge role to play in the delivery of animal welfare and it is vital we celebrate the strong commitment they have to animal welfare across Wales.
“RSPCA Cymru hopes the scheme continues to showcase much of the excellent work being undertaken across Wales.”
