HUNDREDS of people turned out for Underwood Football Club's 50th anniversary celebrations at a family fun day at the weekend.

The all-day event largely took place at the playing fields where the current Underwood senior side faced off against a selection of former players from across its history.

The Underwood first team won the first two of the half hour games, before the past players took the final game.

The event also doubled as the team's end of season presentations for both senior and junior sides.

The Dreams and Wishes Foundation gave young visitors the chance to meet their favourite heroes from the small and silver screen, raising £500 from their stalls.

The celebrations went into the night where the lucky few tickets could enjoy an evening with former Welsh international footballer John Hartson at the Iscoed Tafarn.

Underwood FC's first-team coach Craig Johnson said: "It seemed like the whole estate turned up, it was a good turnout.

"The match was played in good spirit from all involved.

"It was a great day, much better than we all anticipated."
