HUNDREDS of people attended Monmouthshire food festival at the weekend.

The festival, run to promote the county’s produce, was held on Saturday and Sunday at Caldicot Castle and attracted foodies from across Gwent and further afield.

It is the first of two annual events in the festival’s calendar, with the second similar food festival due to be held in the autumn.

Among those demonstrating at the show was Chris Harrod, chef patron of the Michelin-starred restaurant The Whitebrook in Monmouth and local forager Henry Ashby.

Other demonstrators included Clive Williams of the Parkway Hotel and Spa and Adam Whittle of the Newbridge on Usk Hotel.

In the produce market area, stall holders said the day had went well.

Helen Sanderson, who runs Stainswick Farm Rapeseed Oil, said: “It’s been brilliant. It’s gone really, really well.

“I usually get around 100 customers at a festival and today so far I’ve had 97 so hoping to get a couple more before we close.”

Nathan Micic, who runs Castles Brewery in Portskewett, said: “It’s been very good and we’ve done really well.

“I’m very pleased with the turnout and positive comments. We like supporting this local event.”

Charlotte Goodwin, who runs the Newport-based The Welsh Confection, said: “It’s been good. It’s picked up quite well in the afternoon and was really busy.”

Gerwyn Davies, who runs Shelly’s Foods in Bridgend, said: “There’s been nice, friendly people and we have enjoyed the day.

“We’re on par money taking wise with other festivals we’ve done."
