A SCIENTIST who was killed in a crash in Abergavenny on Saturday died from “multiple fatal injuries”, the opening of an inquest heard today.

The inquest was opened into the death of John David Grant, a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on Groesonen Road, Clytha, Abergavenny on June 4.

Mr Grant, who was from Bristol and born in March 1986, was single and worked as a scientist.

Geoffrey Ronayne, coroner’s officer for Gwent Police, said police were called to the road at 7.29pm on Saturday following a call from paramedics.

When they arrived, officers found a man who was later identified as Mr Grant by his mother.

Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service pronounced Mr Grant dead at the scene at 8.03pm.

His body was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and a post mortem examination was carried out on June 6. The cause of death was given as multiple fatal injuries with a second cause of blunt vehicular trauma.

Mr Ronayne told the coroner: “One person was arrested and released on police bail in connection. Gwent Police are continuing with enquiries.”

The 60-year-old man from Monmouthshire who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving is on police bail until September 26.
