AN 86-YEAR-OLD grandmother has sped along a zip wire over a quarry in aid of charity.

Marjorie Hall, of Chepstow, was the eldest member of a team of 32 from the Chepstow Methodist Church to take part in the 700m long zip wire at Chepstow Diving and Activity Centre on Friday.

The congregation took part in the challenge after Reverend Andrew Webster decided to conquer his fear of height and face the zip wire slide.

All those who participated were sponsored. The money raised will go towards the Triangle Project, a cause the church has been supporting for 17 years.

Mrs Hall said: "I would love to do it again. I wasn't scared at all - I watched my grandson do it a while back and thought I could do that.

"The height didn't worry me. I really enjoyed it - it was a lovely feeling gliding through the air and seeing the water below."

The grandmother believes she has raised around £200 for the project, which helps to support a school and clinic in Kenya.

Julie Jones, who along with her husband set up the school from scratch 17-years-ago, said: "The money will be used to up keep the lab technician which it a vital role in the clinic and for medical supplies for the children."
