UPDATE: 5.13pm

Two separate crashes took place this morning. A Gwent Police spokeswoman said they were called at 6.40am to a crash which involved three vehicles a Ford Transit, Vauxhall Zafira and Nissan Primastar. 

No one suffered any serious injuries.


The second crash which happened five minutes later involved four vehicles a Toyota Auris, Ford Transit, Volkswagen Move Up and a Honda Civic.


One woman from this crash was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Congestion is easing on the M4 around Newport following this morning's crash.

UPDATE: 10.40am

Delays are easing with stop-start traffic for ten miles on the M4 eastbound before junction 28 at Tredegar Park. Travel time is around 30 minutes. Congestion is stretching to junction 30. Also affecting A48(M) before M4 J29.

UPDATE: 8.30am

Gwent Police have cleared the car off the M4 carriageway and onto the hard shoulder.

Two police vehicles have ben at the scene and the closed eastbound lane has been reopened.

Delays are still ongoing.

Queues on the M4 eastbound are now stretching for ten miles from junction 24 at Coldra to junction 30 at Cardiff Gate

With one lane continuing to be closed, the Brynglas Tunnels are at a standstill with travel time now at 90 minutes.

The A48(M) outbound before junction 29 at Cardiff East is also creating further congestion. 

UPDATE: 7.47am

One lane is closed eastbound on the M4 with queuing traffic between junction 24 at Coldra and junction 30 at Cardiff Gate.

Congestion is also affecting the A48(M) before junction 29 at Cardiff East.

UPDATE: 6.56am

THREE vehicles have been involved in a crash on the M4 this morning causing congestion.

Police are attending the scene with one of the cars currently sitting on the outside lane.

The other two vehicles involved, a van and another car, are on the hard shoulder.

There is now queueing traffic eastbound from junction 23A at Magor and junction 28 at Tredegar Park.
