A MONMOUTHSHIRE hotel was featured on a popular TV programme last week.

The New Court Hotel, which is located in Maryport Street, Usk, were involved in the Channel 4 programme Four in a Bed, as one of the last establishments to participate in the programme.

Four in a Bed sees multiple members of hotels, B&Bs, boutiques and other types of accommodation visit each other’s businesses to see how they run.

Participants stay for a day and night at the other’s establishments before filling in a survey and rating the place on its service, food, cleanliness and the host’s attitude.

Lee Selway, 47, the proprietor of The New Court Hotel, said the team behind the programme approached him to ask if he and his staff wanted to feature in the show.

He said: “Well I didn’t really fancy being on the screen but my general manager Clare Davies and my partner’s mother Francis Hancock decided they would be happy to be on the show. Clare was particularly up for going on it.”

He added: “It was quite exciting and it was great to have everyone see the hotel as it runs day to day.”

Ms Davies and Ms Hancock were up against six others on the programme from establishments in Sutton-on-Sea, Scunthorpe and Herefordshire, but came second after losing to Seashells B&B in Sutton-on-Sea.

Mr Selway said staff at the hotel "are obviously disappointed" as they came second but enjoyed watching the show.

The New Court Hotel, which was a run down Grade II-listed building, was purchased by Mr Selway around four years ago and was renovated before opening as the hotel.

It currently has five rooms which are all ensuite, and has a four star Visit Wales accreditation.

Mr Selway said that even though the hotel is well-known in Usk it isn’t as well-known to people visiting Monmouthshire.

He said: “We are a well-known in Usk but I guess to people outside of the area we don’t really stand out as we are not in the main square in Usk.”

He added: “Who knows, we might get more people coming.”
