HUNDREDS of families visited the Chepstow Christmas lights switch-on at the weekend.

The switch-on, which took place on Saturday, November 26, was organised by the town council and showed off their new colour change Christmas lights display.

The town mayor’s consort Louise Pavia together with the Chepstow Roundtable and Santa, got the town’s seasonal celebrations underway.

And the Terry Wood Award volunteer from the Bulwark Community Centre officially switched on the town’s display in Beaufort Square at 5.45pm.

The mayor’s consort, Louise Pavia, said: "It was a real privilege to introduce the local volunteer of the year, Terry Woods, to formally switch on the town's Christmas lights.

"On behalf of my husband the mayor, I would like to extend a huge vote of thanks to all those involved in making the event such a glowing success."

The event saw performances from various Chepstow choirs, including St Mary’s RC School Choir, The Gospel Choir, Wye Dean School Gospel Choir and others.

There were also performances from The Dell Primary School, Chepstow Musical Youth Theatre and Chepstow Town Band.

As well as a variety of acts to enjoy, families were also able to visit a small Christmas market in the town and Father Christmas delivered gifts for the children.
